Minutes of Meeting of the HSWP Political Committee on 16 May 1989 - Excerpt on WP Issues

16 May 1989
Description: These minutes of a meeting of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (HSWP) prior to the Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting of July 1989 record the discussion and suggestions made by Hungarian party leaders on questions to be raised at the PCC meeting. The participants agree that only two fundamental issues should be discussed within the Warsaw Pact framework: the joint and national defense of the Warsaw Pact countries and issues related to their activities at the international arena. Also discussed are the negotiations with Moscow for the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Hungarian territory and the abolition of the Brezhnev doctrine.
